A Devon holiday with mates
by Samantha Lyster

"By far my favourite part of the trip was the Stays Afloat experience. This innovative rental agency arranges self-catering accommodation on boats in the stunning Dartmouth Harbour.

The one we stayed on slept six very comfortably, although there might be fights over who gets the room with the magnificent, James Bond-esque round bed. One can imagine 007 making use of it with a blonde and a few cocktails following victory over Dr No. The second bedroom has twin bunks, and in the living room, the sofa pulls out to a generous double bed.

There is a galley kitchen with a good-sized fridge and enough room to cook a family supper, which you will certainly want to do. Dartmouth has plenty of nice places to eat out, but equally it has fantastic independent grocery shops and what could beat eating sumptuous food on the deck of your own boat?

We sat watching the sun setting over the harbour with glasses of champagne and it was the perfect way to end our holiday"

Holidaying in the UK: Devon
By Katie Silcox

"After what seems like a lifetime of living and working in London where I get a train to work, a tube to meet friends, and a bus when it's gone 12 at night - the thought of escaping for a girls adventure weekend to the rolling and red-sheep scattered hills of Devon was inviting yet somewhat daunting.

Although I used to enjoy the adventure lifestyle, I fear that living in the Big Smoke has rid me of all my outdoor instincts.
How could a city-loving girl like me, someone who relies on facebook to organise my social life and e-mail to speak with colleagues sitting next to me, survive in the depths of Devon?

Simple - I did it with style...

Harbour in Devon
The chic Dartmouth seafront - we could be in Monaco!

So, forget thoughts of sleeping under the stars with nothing but mud clumps as pillows. No, this was a far more glamorous affair

Yes, that's right a mega-comfy, super glam yacht. And don't worry if you don't know your way around a boat as you'll get an expert from Stays Afloat come and show you how to work everything. Ours was fitted with all the modern conveniences we could want; heating, softer than soft bedding, and an orange juice stocked fridge. Just what was needed after an action packed day!

Yacht in harbour
Our yacht for the evening, darling

After a relaxed nights sleep it was up and out to face whatever challenges the new day might bring. Challenges that included a 7 mile bike ride and my first ever surfing lesson.

Whether it was the refreshing Devon air, or just that I needed a simple nudge back into my once-active lifestyle, I slipped into the energetic and full of energy persona that was much needed to get through the day.

Devon makes a great weekend for activity enthusiasts, countryside lovers and of course those wanting to get some fresh air in the lungs (or cream teas in the tum) . It's even convinced me to get back on the bike with the London traffic, and to get out of the city for some surfing time soon.

Watch out Devon, I'll be back soon!"
